Course Learning Outcomes:


Knowledge | Define disability and distinguish between the disability/impairment groups

Awareness | Have an increased awareness of the important role communication, language and etiquette have in inclusion

Awareness | Have an increased awareness of people with disabilities taking part in football and opportunities in your community

Insight | Experience different formats of the game through practical experience

This is a three hour workshop containing theoretical and practical elements that has been designed to provide participants with a broad overview of different types of disabilities and the implications for coaching.

The FAI Awareness and coaching in Disability football workshop For further training in a specific format of disability football the FAI FFA programme works in conjunction with it’s affiliates (Association of Powerchair Football, Irish Amputee Football Association, Vision Impaired football Ireland etc) to provide individual assistance as appropriate.

This workshop is tied into the FAI grassroots coach education programme and contributes towards the 40 hours of grassroots coach education needed to receive a National D-licence coaching award.


It is regularly delivered to clubs applying to develop a Football for All programme and also to sports coaching and adapted recreational activity students in colleges of further education. For enquiries about course delivery in your area please contact Vincent.foley@fai.ie
