WU17s finalise squad for Round 1 Qualifiers

Twenty players will travel to Poland as part of the Ireland Women’s Under-17s squad for their 2023-24 UEFA European WU17 Championship Round 1 Qualifiers.

Head Coach James Scott will be targeting top spot in Group A2 as his team take on Norway (October 12), Iceland (October 15) and Poland (October 18).

A recent trip to Portugal proved to be worthwhile as the Girls in Green got to play together as a new group for the first time in three difficult games and they will have taken a lot of confidence from that.

Included in the Ireland squad are several players who have already broken through at their respective clubs in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division, including Cork City duo Clodagh Fitzgerald and Kiera Sena.

Shelbourne’s Rebecca Devereux scored a sensational goal against Shamrock Rovers last weekend, while three members of the squad are part of the new FAI / Fingal Girls’ TY Course that recently started.

The squad depart Dublin on Monday having trained at the FAI National Training Centre and will be in action on Thursday afternoon in their opening game.
