Preview | Semi-final places up for grabs in season run-in

This weekend will be the penultimate match-day weekend of the FAI National League and still all four places in the semi-finals remain up for grabs.

In what is proving to be a thrilling end to the inaugural season as many as 10 teams have an opportunity to secure a spot in the National League final four.

Group 1

Lucan United know victory over Bonagee United will put them within a point of group leaders Home Farm DCU with the two Dublin sides set to go head-to-head on Saturday, October 31.

In the group’s other game second-placed Mervue United could go joint top should they overcome bottom side Cockhill Celtic. This will be their final group game and will have to wait on other results next weekend if they can qualify out of the group.

Group 2

The game of the weekend is undoubtedly Salthill Devon against St. Francis at NFP Park as first plays second in the group.  The Seagulls or The Saints can end the weekend in top spot and with a further round of fixtures for the two sides next week. St. Francis  are currently in first on goal difference.

Letterkenny Rovers travel to west Dublin when they take on TU Dublin in Blanchardstown. The Donegal side know they must win to keep their semi-final hopes alive and should the result at NFP Park go their way it could set-up a final match-day showdown next week with Salthill Devon at Leckview Park.

Group 3

CK United face UCC Soccer at the SETU Carlow Sports Campus with both team’s seasons in the balance. CK could end their campaign on 17 points putting them in a strong position to either top Group 3 or be best-placed runner-up. However UCC could well find a back-door route to the semi-finals themselves. An away win in Carlow would place them on 13 points and they then host Newbridge Town next week where another victory would put them amongst the run-in for a semi-final.

Villa can become the first team to secure their place in the last four with an away win over Killarney Celtic.
