A superb 3-0 victory got the Ireland Men's Under-17s off to a winning start in their UEFA European U-17 Championship Qualifiers as they overcame hosts Poland.

The Boys in Green stormed through their first qualifier match of Elite Round with goals coming from Cillian Murphy late into the first half and Joe Byrne and Ryan Sheridan in the second half.

There was room for more goals for Ireland when a near miss left Murphy’s shot hitting the post in the second half and a total of 17 attempts in the 96-minutes showed that the team were desperate to build up the goal difference in their Group A7.

Ireland will look ahead to their upcoming fixtures against Croatia on March 28th and Slovakia on March 31st with ambitions of moving forward to the UEFA Men’s Under-17 Championship finals.

Ireland: Darragh Brunton; Tadhg Prizeman (Maxim Afonin 45), Kian Quigley, Danny Burke, Sean Spaight; Cillian Murphy (Josh O’Dwyer 69), Tom McGrath; Tom Byrne, Victor Ozhianvuna (Ryan Sheridan 83), David Dunne (Joey Wuna 83); Hugh Martin (Josh Harpur 69).
