Ireland C.P secure 5th place in World Championship

The Irish cerebral palsy team were victorious in Arnhem with a 2-1 win over Holland to secure 5th place in the 12 team World Championships.

The Irish cerebral palsy team were victorious in Arnhem with a 2-1 win over Holland to secure 5th place in the 12 team World Championships.


Holland took the lead in the 12th minute through Denis Straatman, a tap in following a great save from keeper Brian McGillvary. Following a motivational half time team talk, the Irish team saved their best football for the second half. Two goals from attacking midfieder, Luke Evans (pictured right) secured a 2-1 win for the fighting Irish.


Team Manager Paul Cassin said, 'This was a hard fought and a well earned victory over a strong Holland side. It sets us in motion to qualify for the Paralympics in London 2012. I am so proud of every one of my lads for the work rate, teamwork, and belief they showed today. And to finally beat Holland after 9 years. this team is very young and i look forward to very bright future,' added Cassin.
