WU17s ready for Portuguese challenge

The Republic of Ireland Women's Under-17s will set off for Portugal next week for two International Friendly games.

Similar to the Women's Under-19s, who had two games in Centro de Estágios do Luso last week, these fixtures have been arranged to help prepare James Scott's squad for their upcoming UEFA Women's Under-17 European Championship qualifiers.

In late October, the WU17s will travel to Northern Ireland for their Group A3 games against the host nation, as well as Austria and Finland.

Scott will be keen to make the most of these two games against a highly-rated Portuguese team as he assesses his squad and uses the time together to work on their preparations for the qualifiers.

Four players - Kiera Sena, Freya Healy, Hannah Healy and Katie Lawlee - are included in the squad just a week on from helping Tom Elmes's WU16s record two wins over Wales in Newport.

A number of the players have already featured in the SSE Airtricity Women's National League this season, while others have been excelling in the EA SPORTS Women's Under-19 National League.
