WU17 squad selected for Round 2 qualifiers

WU17 squad selected for Round 2 qualifiers

The task for the Republic of Ireland Women's Under-17s is straightforward: top the group after three games and the reward is qualification to the UEFA WU17 European Championships this summer in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Home advantage could be a factor as James Scott's squad will be in Tallaght Stadium to take on Slovakia (Wednesday, March 23), Finland (Saturday, March 26) and Iceland (Tuesday, March 29).

Supporters are encouraged to turn up and show their support. Tickets are only €5 for adults with Under-16s going free (but they must secure a ticket in advance).

Ireland are ranked third in Europe going into these key qualifiers following their superb showing in Round 1 last October, where they beat Hungary, Bulgaria and Norway.

Included in the squad are six players who have already featured in the SSE Airtricity Women's National League, as well as Donegal sisters Jodie & Keri Loughrey.

Liverpool ace Sophie Morrin is the only foreign-based player to be called up, while forward Abbie Larkin is recalled after making her Women's National Team debut last month in the Pinatar Cup.

The Ireland squad will assemble on Sunday, March 20th and begin preparations at the FAI National Training Centre ahead of the first game in Tallaght Stadium.
