WU16: Review of 2022

WU16: Review of 2022

It was a good year for the Republic of Ireland Women's Under-16s with two different squads getting to experience some challenging games.

Head Coach Tom Elmes knew that the step up to international football would be testing for some of his players, but that is what brings out the best in them so he arranged three double headers and also a UEFA Development Tournament.

First up was a trip to Portugal, where his players showed a lot of character - particularly in the second of two games against the hosts - and that stood to them when they travelled to Malta in April. Three wins, 16 goals scored and three clean sheets showed that they were learning fast.

The changing of seasons, come September, brought a new crew in and Elmes brought them to Wales, where they produced two excellent performances. The year was rounded off with two tough games at home to Switzerland.
