WNT show support to Breast Cancer Awareness

For the third straight year, the Ireland Women's National Team have given their support to Breast Cancer Awareness.

With one in nine women diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and 30 per cent of those between the ages of 20-50, the WNT players linked in with Breast Cancer Ireland as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Ahead of their UEFA Nations League game against Albania on Friday, the WNT players wore Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirts at their pre-match training sessions in Tallaght Stadium.

Katie McCabe, Ireland WNT captain, said: "The impact of breast cancer is something that we all know about with so many women in Ireland affected by it, so it is really important that we, as a squad, use our profile to raise as much awareness as we can about tackling breast cancer.

"We would like to encourage all women, from the age of 20 upwards, to learn all about the eight signs and symptoms of breast cancer."

Aisling Hurley, CEO of Breast Cancer Ireland, said: “We are thrilled to partner with the Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team during this Breast Cancer Awareness month.

“Women supporting and empowering others to be more breast aware is critical if we are going to change the landscape of this disease into the future. Knowing what is normal today, should an abnormality arise is important in ensuring a more positive treatment outcome.”
