Waesch hoping to complete double glory with Athlone Town

Lifting the Sports Direct Women's FAI Cup would cap off an almost perfect season for Hannah Waesch and Athlone Town.

Having retained the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division title, The Midlanders now have their sights set on claiming the Cup for the second time in their history.

“It would be so incredible if we could do the double. It would be the perfect way to end what has been a special year," said midfielder Waesch.

This is the fourth straight year that Athlone Town will feature in the showpiece event in Tallaght Stadium when they take on Bohemians on Sunday, October 19th. It will be a new experience for US-born Waesch though.

The University of Texas graduate has been hearing a lot from her team-mates about Cup Final Day and it is helping to build the anticipation for what promises to be another massive day on the women's football calendar.

"We're really excited about the Cup Final. A lot of the girls have talked it up, in terms of how special that whole day is, so, as someone who hasn't experienced that, I'm looking forward to it," said Waesch.

"Some of the girls have said that their families are renting chartered buses to take them up and back from the stadium - that is going to be really cool. It just makes you excited to think we could be getting to play in front of a big crowd in a great stadium in a Cup Final.

"The biggest crowd we had so far was our UEFA Champions League game against Cardiff City and that was so much fun. So we want to experience that again because you feed off the atmosphere and the energy. Thinking about everything with the Cup Final is fun, so we are looking forward to it."
