Vera Pauw honoured at 2022 RTÉ Sports Awards

A historic year for the Republic of Ireland Women's National Team was recognised at the 2022 RTÉ Sports Awards with Vera Pauw claiming Manager of the Year.

The WNT were nominated for RTÉ Sport Team of the Year for their achievement of qualifying for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023, while captain Katie McCabe was shortlisted for RTÉ SportsPerson of the Year.

Over the course of the year, the team played 10 games in total; winning eight, drawing one, scoring 21 goals and recording six consecutive clean sheets.

The most notable result, however, was the Qualifying Play-Off victory away to Scotland in Hampden Park which ensured qualification for the first time to a major tournament.

Manager Vera Pauw was the winner on the night as she was named as the RTÉ Sport Manager of the Year - the first woman to lift the award.

Appointed in 2019, Pauw has overseen 26 games with Ireland in a period where they have achieved a highest ever position in the FIFA Women's World Rankings, secured a biggest ever win, equalled their best ever away result, set a new home attendance record and also introduced an equal pay structure for the players.

While preparations for the World Cup are already underway, the WNT players, management and staff can reflect on a truly memorable year knowing that they made history.
