TG4 becomes the exclusive broadcaster of domestic women’s football in Ireland

TG4 is delighted to announce that it will broadcast live coverage of the 2025 Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup Semi-Finals and Final. This latest addition to TG4’s expanding sports coverage makes the Irish language broadcaster the exclusive home of domestic women’s football in Ireland.

Already the broadcaster of the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division and the Women’s All-Island Cup, TG4’s commitment to the women’s game continues to grow. The inclusion of the Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup brings the total number of domestic women’s football fixtures broadcast on TG4 in 2025 to 17 – covering 13 rounds of the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division, the Women’s All-Island Cup Final, and now both the Semi-Finals and Final of the Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup.

TG4’s coverage will begin with the Semi-Finals in September, followed by the Final on Sunday, October 19th. This will be the first time the Semi-Finals will be broadcast live on free-to-air television – a landmark moment for visibility and support of women’s football in Ireland.

The competition begins with the First Round in late June, featuring all 12 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division clubs alongside the four Semi-Finalists from the Women’s FAI Amateur Cup. The Quarter-Finals will follow in mid-August.

Shelbourne are the current holders of the trophy, having defeated Athlone Town in the 2024 Final – a reversal of the 2023 decider, which Athlone won on penalties.

Sean Kavanagh, FAI Commercial Director, said: “We’re thrilled to announce this new broadcast agreement with TG4 who have already showed brilliant support for the women’s game in Ireland through the League of Ireland and their coverage of the Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup further underlines their commitment to the growth of the Women’s game in Ireland. We have already seen some memorable moments in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division in TG4’s coverage and we’re very excited to see the Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup come to life with the extra broadcasts of both Semi-Finals and the Final. Added to the Women’s All-Island Cup Final, TG4 is the destination for women’s domestic football in Ireland and we’re looking forward to the excellent coverage they will bring for the rest of 2025.”

Rónán Ó Coisdealbha, Head of Sport, TG4 said: “TG4 is proud to add the Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup to our growing line-up of women’s football coverage, which already includes the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division and the Women’s All-Island Cup. This addition makes TG4 the exclusive home of domestic women’s football in Ireland. It also reaffirms our ongoing commitment to the promotion and visibility of women’s sport across all codes. All three Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup matches will be accessible to viewers worldwide on the TG4 App and the TG4 Player.”

The official launch of the 2025 Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup, including the First Round draw, will take place on Wednesday, June 5th at FAI Headquarters in Abbottstown. Further details to follow.
