REPORT | WNT 2-1 Greece

Goals from Amber Barrett and Anna Patten helped the Ireland Women's National Team beat Greece 2-1 in their UEFA Nations League clash in Tallaght Stadium.

After beating the same opposition 4-0 four days earlier, Carla Ward's squad went into this game aiming to pick up their third win in Group B2 - and they did just that.

A foul on Leanne Kiernan inside the opening 10 minutes earned a penalty kick that Barrett converted to score in back-to-back games for the first time for Ireland.

The home team - playing in front of 5,879 spectators - played well in spells and showed signs of the type of team that Ward is trying to get them to become.

With 14 attempts on goal, Ireland were the more assertive of the two teams but did not create as many clear-cut chances as they would have liked. Still, they found a way through when Patten headed in her third senior goal on 50 minutes.

Greece did pull one back through Veatriki Sarri on 72 minutes with a strike from distance but a comeback was never really on as Ireland finished on top to collect the three points.

Ireland: Courtney Brosnan; Aoife Mannion, Jessie Stapleton, Anna Patten, Megan Campbell; Tyler Toland (Ruesha Littlejohn 82); Marissa Sheva (Caitlin Hayes 89), Denise O’Sullivan; Lucy Quinn (Abbie Larkin 82), Amber Barrett (Saoirse Noonan 73), Leanne Kiernan (Emily Murphy 46).

Greece: Zoi Nasi; Maria Palama, Eleni Markou, Maria Paterna; Stamatia Ntarzanou, Eleni Saich, Veatriki Sarri, Athanasia Moraitou (Elena Kakambouki 46), Maria Mitkou; Ioanna Papatheodorou, Anastasia Spyridonidou (Sofia Kongouli 46).

Referee: Franziska Wildfeuer (Germany).
