The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has launched the FAI Grassroots Volunteer Awards to celebrate the thousands of volunteers who dedicate their time for the love of football in Ireland. 

The Awards have been created to celebrate those who help to ensure that football positively impacts people around the country.  

It follows on from this year’s FAI Volunteer Recognition Programme that celebrated 20 people for their contribution to Irish grassroots football. 

In total there will be seven categories, they are: 

• Volunteer of the Year 
• Young Volunteer of the Year (16 -24-years old) 
• Noel O’Reilly Male Volunteer Coach of the Year 
• Noel O’Reilly Female Volunteer Coach of the Year 
• Women/Girls Volunteer of the Year 
• Disability/Football For All Volunteer of the Year 
• Schools/Third Level Volunteer of the Year   

The winners will be honoured at the FAI Education & Coach Development Conference in January 2027.

FAI President Paul Cooke said: “The impact that volunteers have on our game cannot be overstated; they are the lifeblood of Irish football. In every part of the country, you will find that grassroots football is powered by the dedication of volunteers who give so much to help others enjoy being involved in football. So, it is only fitting to have the FAI Grassroots Volunteer Awards to celebrate those who go above and beyond for others – and we will roll this out across the entire game as we move forward. 

“If you know of any unsung hero deserving to be celebrated and have seen the impact and contribution that they have made then please nominate them for an Award.”
