REPORT | WNT 1-0 Slovenia

A first-half header from Saoirse Noonan guided the Ireland Women's National Team to a 1-0 win over Slovenia in their final Group 2 game in the UEFA Nations League.

Noonan - the Girl from Grange - scored her second senior international on her first competitive start just three miles from her hometown. It was meant to be for her.

This makes it five wins from six games for Carla Ward's team and they finish second behind Slovenia, who beat them in the first meeting between the sides earlier in the campaign.

Ireland were really impressive in this game with 15 attempts registered on goal - making it 86 overall across all games - and they were backed by a vocal crowd of 9,433 spectators.

There were numerous chances that could have led to Ireland getting the four-goal margin that they needed to top the group, but they just didn't fall into the back of the net.

Still, Ireland kept pushing all the way to the end and ended this group on a high as they bid farewell to Louise Quinn after 122 appearances. They now move onto a Promotion / Relegation Play-Off in October.

Ireland: Courtney Brosnan; Jessie Stapleton (Megan Campbell 62), Anna Patten, Caitlin Hayes, Katie McCabe; Emily Murphy, Megan Connolly, Denise O’Sullivan, Abbie Larkin (Louise Quinn 80); Saoirse Noonan (Amber Barrett 62), Kyra Carusa (Marissa Sheva 80).

Slovenia: Zala Meršnik; Lana Golob, Sara Agrež; Kaja Korošec, Dominika Čonč; Lara Prašnikar; Špela Kolbl, Sara Makovec, Kaja Eržen; Zara Kramžar, Maja Sternad (Nina Kajzba 68)

Referee: Miriama Bockova (Slovakia).
