A late goal from Magdalena Eriksson deprived the Ireland Women's National Team of a result in Stockholm as they fell to a 1-0 loss to Sweden.

In the second of two back-to-back games, Eileen Gleeson's side showed courage in their approach play and stood up to one of the best teams in women's football.

Shifting to a 1-4-2-3-1 formation, Ireland pressed when they needed to apply pressure and had a number of breakaway attacks that got them in behind the Swedish backline.

In front of their home crowd - consisting of over 21,000 spectators - Sweden showed their flair with Fridolina Rolfö forcing goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan into a fine save in the first half.

With Jess Ziu using quick feet to break free of challenges, Ireland were able to open up space and created a number of half chances that brought them close to opening the scoring.

Brosnan was in superb form as she denied Madelen Janogy and was alert to an unintended flick from Aoife Mannion towards her own goal.

Ireland deserved something from this game and the performance proved that they are improving with each game in Group A3.

Cruelly, Eriksson got the only goal on 84 minutes when she got the slightest of touches to help a corner kick divert into the back of the Irish net.

A lot for Gleeson and the players to be proud of in this display as they continue on their quest to qualify for EURO 2025.
