REPORT | Poland 3-0 WU17

This was the first of three International Friendlies lined up for the Ireland Women's Under-17’s in preparation for their upcoming UEFA European Championship Qualifiers in October.

Poland had a good chance to put one in the back of net on three minutes, but Clodagh Fitzgerald did well to come out and make the save. Following on from that, Poland had a corner and Kiera Sena cleared a Polish header off the line.

Ireland started to get into the game, and on eight minutes, Katie Lawlee squared the ball to captain Rebecca Devereux, who just miscued her shot over the crossbar.

Poland increased the tempo, and on 10 minutes, Fitzgerald made another point blank save to keep things level.

Poland had a breakthrough in the 22nd minute, but Fitzgerald came off of her line quickly to shut the opportunity down well.

The breakthrough came for Poland just before the break, with Arasniewicz doing well to slot the ball past Fitzgerald in the Irish net.

Ireland had chances, one from a free-kick and one from a corner, but couldn’t find an equaliser before the end of the first-half.

The second half started with another Poland goal, Zwiazek slotting it home into the bottom left corner to make it 2-0.

Poland’s third came in the 68th minute, with a fine volley from Sobierajska.

A loss for the WU17’s but lots to take and build on for James Scott’s side heading into their next game against Scotland on Saturday.
