Two stunning strikes from Finn Sherlock and Cillian Tollett either side of a Kian McMahon-Brown goal saw Ireland 3-2 up going into the final 10 minutes but Aberdeen’s Joseph Teasdale rescued a point for Scotland late on.
In the six-goal thriller, the hosts struck first through Aiden McCallion who got on the end of a Keir Gilligan cross to fire home.
Hoffenheim and former Shelbourne man Sherlock brought Ireland back to parity curling an excellent free-kick into the top corner from 20-yards out in 39th minute.
Five minutes into the second half Ireland were ahead. McMahon-Brown was put in on goal and he slotted in the corner for 2-1.
However four minutes later it was 2-2. Tommy North got on the end of a smart corner routine to level from close range.
In a breathless game the match settled into a lull but it was lit up again through a stunning strike by Tollett who found the bottom corner from outside the box.
Ireland could have gone on got a fourth with Rory Finneran next to test the Scottish goalkeeper but Scotland kept themselves in the contest.
With the game going into the final 10 minutes, Teasdale snuck in to find the net despite the best efforts of Alex Noonan.
Ireland are back in action on Tuesday when they face Italy.
