REPORT | MU17 | Ireland finish runners-up after Hungary win

Ireland Men’s Under-17s finished runners-up in the Telki Cup after beating the hosts Hungary 2-0.

A goal in each half from Bohemians pair Curtis Egan and Josh Harpur was enough to see Paul Osam’s team earn the win.

Egan had Ireland ahead in the 17th minute. Harpur broke through on goal and was thwarted by the Hungarian goalkeeper but Egan reacted fastest to volley home for 1-0.

In the second half his clubmate doubled the lead with a fine finish. Harpur, who was top scorer for Ireland at Under-16s level last year, was allowed to cut inside by the defender and he took advantage before firing low to the keeper’s left for 2-0.

The result tops off a solid week for the MU17s who face Kosovo, Faroe Islands and Austria in their First Round of European Qualifiers in October.
