REPORT | GU16 | Switzerland 2-2 Ireland

The Ireland Girls' Under-16s finished the 2025 UEFA Development Tournament with a loss to Switzerland via a penalty shoot-out following a 2-2 draw in normal time.

Alex Devoy rattled a shot against the Swiss post after five minutes before Ciara Milton, Madison McGuane and Ellen Goggin all went close with efforts.

Following a scoreless first half, Switzerland took the lead through a long-range strike but Alice Buggle hit back to level matters.

The Swiss scored again on 72 minutes but their lead was short-lived as Molly Kirwan rattled in the equaliser - and that proved to be an important goal.

Ireland had narrowly lost to both Belgium and Finland in their previous games, so it was a just reward for them to claim a draw from the 90 minutes played.

Head Coach Tom Elmes will be pleased to have seen his players respond so well, especially coming from behind twice, and a number of players caught the eye with their performances.

The game was decided by a penalty shoot-out with Switzerland wining 4-3 to lead the celebrations. Ireland. however, can be proud of how they played throughout this tournament.

Ireland: Lucy Doyle-Farrington; Annabel Mulcaire-Quille (Lara Dallaghan 46), Caoimhe O'Brien (Holly O'Hagan 77), Keelin Comiskey, Hailey Twomey (Ava Hallinan 65); Ellen Goggin (Alice Buggle 46), Madison McGuane, Emma Mooney (Fiona Poole 65); Halle Harcourt (Kassie McLoughlin 65), Ciara Milton (Mia Gaff 65), Alex Devoy (Molly Kirwan 46).
