REPORT | MU17 | 3-0 win over Faroe Islands secures Elite Round qualification

Ireland Men’s Under-17s have secured their place in the Elite Round after a dominant 3-0 win over Faroe Islands in Austria.

TJ Molloy, Ben Mahon and Cillian Murphy were on target for Paul Osam’s team with the Faroese also missing a first-half penalty.

The win combined with Austria’s 4-3 victory over Kosovo secured a place in the next round of qualifiers meaning Tuesday’s clash between the two teams will see who finished as group winners.

Dundalk’s Molloy had Ireland ahead when he jinked inside the area and found the top corner with a fine strike.

Shortly before half time the Faroe Island were handed a way back into the game but Markus Danielsen saw his penalty strike the woodwork.

Ireland were awarded a penalty of their own three minutes into the second period and Shamrock Rovers’ Mahon stepped up to fire home his second goal of the qualifiers for 2-0.

Cork City’s Cillian Murphy wrapped up the contest five minutes later when his pressure on the Faroe Island backline saw him pinch the ball and find the far corner.
