Preview | Ireland MU17 to discover World Cup opponents

Ireland Men’s Under-17s will discover their Under-17 World Cup opponents when the draw for the 2025 tournament takes place this Sunday.

The young Boys in Green sealed their spot at the tournament in Qatar after finishing best-placed runners up for qualification for the 2025 U17 European Championships.

While missing out on the EUROs, their 5-0 win over Iceland assured them a place in Qatar along with 48 other teams with Colin O’Brien leading Ireland to a first ever U17 World Cup appearance.

Ireland will be in Pot 4.
 

When is the draw?

Sunday, May 25 at 7pm (Irish time)

How does the draw work?
A team from each pot: Pot 1, Pot 2, Pot 3 and Pot 4 will be drawn and will make up the group. There will be 12 groups of four in total.

How could Ireland progress in the tournament?

The top two teams in each group, along with the eight best third-placed sides, will qualify for the Round of 32. From the Round of 32 onwards, the tournament will be played in a knockout format

What date is the World Cup?
The competition will run from November 3 to November 27, 2025

OFC: Fiji, New Caledonia, New Zealand 

UEFA: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, England, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Switzerland
