PREVIEW | EVOKE.ie FAI Women's Cup Final

The showpiece event of women's domestic football in Ireland arrives this Sunday with the 2021 EVOKE.ie FAI Women's Cup Final pitting Wexford Youths against Shelbourne at Tallaght Stadium.

In what will be the 47th staging of the Final in this competition, the two teams have faced off at this stage twice before. Wexford edged it in 2015, following a penalty shoot-out, while Shelbourne were victors in 2016.

The clubs met as recently as last week in the final of the 2021 SSE Airtricity Women's National League season, where Shelbourne won 3-2 and lifted the League trophy as a result - coupled with holders Peamount United losing.

Now the focus is on the Cup. The Reds want to complete the domestic double, while Wexford want to move up to third in the all-time rankings with four Cup triumphs.

If the game ends in a draw at full-time then extra-time will be played, with 10 minutes each half, and a penalty shoot-out will follow this should a winner not emerge.

With tickets selling well, this could be a record crowd for the FAI Women's Cup Final in just its second year having a standalone broadcast on RTÉ2 and the first with EVOKE.ie onboard as primary sponsors.

This is a game not to be missed!
