Preview | 2025 Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup Final

In what will be the 55th Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup Final, Athlone Town take on Bohemians on Sunday, October 19th in Tallaght Stadium to see who will take home the trophy.

Stretching back to 1971, there have been 24 different winners of this competition and first-time finalists Bohemians will be hoping to add their name to that list while Athlone Town are chasing a second Cup triumph following their victory in 2023.

Athlone Town are back in this showpiece event for the fourth consecutive year and they are determined to finish their season as double champions after recently retaining the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division title.

Bohemians, who first entered a women’s senior team into the League of Ireland in 2020, will be fired up for this game after contesting the All-Island Cup Final in August – where they lost in a penalty shootout to Wexford.

To secure their place in this year's Final, Athlone Town beat Terenure Rangers in the First Round, overcame Peamount United in the Quater-Finals and edged past Shamrock Rovers in the Semi-Finals. For Bohemians, they had to find a way past Wexford, then Newbridge Town and, finally, Treaty United.

This will be the sixth Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup Final to be held in Tallaght Stadium and the first to be broadcast live on TG4, after they covered both Semi-Final ties. It promises to be an entertaining game between two very good teams to bring the 2025 League of Ireland women’s season to a close in style.
