Ireland Men’s Under-19s fixture schedule for the remainder of 2024 has been confirmed with France and Mexico among the opponents for Tom Mohan’s team.

Ireland will compete in two tournaments in the coming months ahead of their November UEFA U19 EURO Championship qualifiers.

Tom Mohan’s team will head to Slovenia in September where they will face Slovenia, France and Kazakhstan before travelling to Croatia in October to take on the hosts as well as Mexico and Greece.

The young Boys in Green face a tricky qualification group in November having been drawn against the hosts Moldova, Azerbaijan and Iceland.

Work to prepare for the qualifiers has already begun with Mohan hosting a home-based Under-19s assessment day last week at FAI National Training Centre, Abbotstown.

Of the players called-in all but two players were Irish-based as they featured in two behind-closed-doors friendlies against Bohemians U20s and UCD U20s.

Speaking about the upcoming games, Mohan said: “We’ve a challenging qualification group coming up in November against three difficult opponents. It will be a real test to head to Moldova and get through our first qualification round so we need to make sure we’re as well prepared as possible.

“We’ve six fixtures before the competitive games start but what is pleasing is we’ll be coming up against teams who will present a variety of challenges for us. It’s not just about France, because they have an excellent player pool no matter the age group, but the likes of Kazakhstan and Mexico who will be new tests for us as well as Greece, Croatia and Slovenia who are all strong footballing nations.”

Reflecting on the home-based assessment day, Mohan added: “It’s important to look at all options available to us and take a closer look at players closer to home as well as the continuous monitoring of our overseas Players before we start making our squad selections.”
