MU19 | Mohan names 23-man squad for friendly double-header

Ireland Men’s Under-19s will be in action this week with friendlies against Scotland and Faroe Islands in Pinatar, Spain.

Tom Mohan has named a 23-man squad for the matches which will form part of the preparation for the UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifiers next month where Ireland face Albania, Slovenia and Belgium.

Ahead of the trip to Spain’s east coast, Mohan hands first international call-ups for Drogheda United's Warren Davis and Wexford’s James Crawford. Ireland MU19s are also boosted by the return of St. Patrick’s Athletic’s Adam Murphy (pictured) who made is his Under-21s debut against Türkiye last month.

Cork City’s Joe O’Brien Whitmarsh returns to the international fold as does Caden McLoughlin of Villarreal who is currently on-loan at CD Roda.

Sixteen out of the squad currently play in the League of Ireland with a further four (Heffernan, Kone-Doherty, Umeh and O’Mahony) all previously playing for LOI clubs.

Speaking ahead of the games Mohan said: “We began our season with two tough games against Bosnia & Herzegovina who are strong, technical and organised and we were able cap a number of players for the first time during that window.

“Now it’s a different challenge against Scotland and the Faroe Islands. Two games, in quick succession against two different styles which will be the ideal preparation ahead of the qualifiers in Albania next month.”
