Ireland began 2022 with strong performances against Belgium in Marbella. A 2-2 draw was followed by a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Rocco Vata.

Onto the Elite Round of the UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifiers and Ireland would missed out on qualification but ended the stage with a 2-2 draw against Bulgaria.

A new group of U17s started the international season with a penalty shootout win over the Netherlands. Luke Kehir scored a sublime free-kick in the final minute to take the game to a shootout. This was followed with an unbeaten qualification round in October with Colin O’Brien’s team securing a 4-0 win over Armenia, a 2-2 draw with Belarus and a 1-1 draw with the hosts Norway. They face Italy, Ukraine and Cyrpus in the Elite Round in March.
