Moyne Villa FC Earn Club Mark Award

Galway's Moyne Villa FC are the latest club to achieve the FAI Club Mark award.

Moyne Villa F.C. was founded in 1977 and is located in the town of Headford, County Galway. The clubs name originates from Moyne Castle which sits on the Galway-Mayo border.

Prior to 1998, the club was accommodated through various arrangement with neighbouring clubs and facilities before entering an agreement with the Presentation Sisters regarding the current ground locations on St. Mary's Road.

From 2007, the club committee embarked on an ambitious program to develop the facilities which now boasts two flood-lit grass pitches, a six-dressing room clubhouse and a reduced size all-weather pitch.

The club has increased significantly and now boasts over 580 members (boys and girls) across 22 competitive teams in all ages from U12 through to adult and an active academy group.

Moyne Villa F.C. prides itself on developing and providing resources to various other aspects across the community including the playground, a walkway, outdoor gym and boules court. The clubhouse is also used for 'The Hub' and social / active clubs including the No Name Club benefit from the facility.

In 2017, Moyne Villa took full ownership of the grounds and they thank the Presentation Sisters for trusting the club in our future community and soccer based activities.

The club would like to thank PJ Walsh, David Lynch, Liam Hanrahan, John Donagher and Dónal Gallagher for their efforts to achieve the Club Mark Entry Level award and to all the committee, coaches and volunteers for their continued support and dedication to the club.

The FAI Club Mark is free and optional for clubs and aims to:

  • Improve the management of clubs ‘off the field’
  • Establish and promote best practice
  • Empower and support clubs
  • Recognise and reward clubs for achieving high standards
  • Increase a club’s capacity to operate effectively and grow football in communities throughout Ireland.
