Match Report | BU16 | Fay Brace Inspires Emphatic Win Over Greece

The Republic of Ireland Men's Under-16s produced a dominant display to sign off their international window in style, securing an impressive 4-0 victory over Greece at the Carlisle Grounds in Bray on Thursday night.

In front of an enthusiastic crowd, Jason Donohue's side bounced back superbly from a narrow 2-1 defeat to the same opposition on Tuesday. The Young Boys in Green showed their quality from the first whistle, overwhelming the visitors with intense pressure and clinical finishing to end the week on a high.

Ireland's intent was clear from the outset, and they stormed into a two-goal lead within the opening 13 minutes. Derry City’s Jamie O’Donnell broke the deadlock in the 10th minute, before Shamrock Rovers starlet Corey Fay quickly doubled the advantage just three minutes later, putting Ireland firmly in control.

The team carried their dominance into the second half, with Derry City's Michael McColgan making it 3-0 in the 58th minute.

The victory was sealed just five minutes later when Corey Fay grabbed his second of the night to cap a fantastic individual performance. Such was Ireland's control of the contest, the margin of victory could have been even wider had James Loughnane not seen a penalty saved, but it did little to dampen a brilliant team display that rewarded the home support.

Republic of Ireland Starting XI:
Alex Byrne (GK), Charlie Nolan (C), Maxim Afonin, Ben Nicholls, Ciaran Daly, Jamie O'Donnell, Kai Morall, Aydin Aliyev, Corey Fay, Max Dunne, Rian Ennis.

Referee: Oisin Walsh
