Ireland drawn against Scotland in UEFA Nations League

Ireland have been drawn against Scotland, Ukraine and Armenia in Group 1, League B of the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League.

The draw, which was conducted in Nyon, Switzerland, this evening, sees Ireland face Ukraine for the first time and Scotland for the first time since 2015, whilst Ireland will face Armenia for the first time since 2011.

Ireland will play all their group opponents home and away in June & September 2022 with four of the six matchdays set for June due to the winter scheduling of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Fixtures for the 2022 UEFA Nations League will be announced tomorrow morning. Speaking to UEFA on the draw, Ireland manager Stephen Kenny believes it is an exciting group where each team can beat each other.

"My first impression is that it is a really competitive group," said Kenny.

"Ukraine got to the quarter-finals of the EUROS, Scotland have won their last six matches and Armenia have really improved, finishing ahead of Iceland recently in their World Cup qualifying group.

"All of the teams are capable of taking points off each other so it is very exciting from our point of view. "Obviously, we're third seeds in the group so not many people would expect us to win the group but that will certainly be our ambition."
