Ireland Amputee squad set for Nations League test

The Ireland Amputee squad are prepared for the challenge of the EAFF Nations League as they look to achieve the ultimate goal of qualifying for the European Championships in 2024.

The Amputee squad and staff have flown out to Annecy, France this week to face the hosts France, Italy and Germany in what is set to be a challenging group for Chris McElligott's side.

The three-match group tournament will kick-off on Friday, September 8 against France before Italy a day later and the final match against Germany on Sunday, September 10 in an intense three days of tournament football.

The EAFF Nations League is in its inaugural year and it has been launched to provide competition football in the years between the European Championships and the World Cup.

"I'm delighted with the way the preparation has gone. We've been training on the weekends and the application from the squad has been fantastic and it needs to be ahead of what is a really exciting opportunity," said manager McElligott.

"They've brought into our principles of play and how we want to approach each game. It's a difficult group but we believe we have everything we need to be successful.

"No doubt, we need to apply ourselves in the right way and stay organised but as long as we show good resolve and strong as a group, I'm sure we can achieve something special."
