The Making of Chiedozie Ogbene

The Making of Chiedozie Ogbene

Republic of Ireland star Chiedozie Ogbene has revealed his and his family's amazing story on how they made the journey from Nigeria to Ireland.

Featuring clips from his mother Christiana and his brothers Uche & Cody, the Ogbene family tell their story which led to Chiedozie becoming the first African-born player to play for Ireland.

Coming through the League of Ireland at Cork City and Limerick before moving to England with Brentford, Chiedozie was brought into the Ireland set-up by manager Stephen Kenny who recognised his talents and tracked him since his move from the League of Ireland.

Since making his debut for the Ireland national team as a substitute in a 0-0 draw against Hungary in June 2020, Ogbene has gone from strength to strength, scoring his first goal in a 3-0 win over Azerbaijan before goals against Luxembourg and Belgium followed.

In the full interview, which was made in partnership with Carlsberg Zero and Off The Ball, Chiedozie talks about his football life in Ireland as a child, his rise in the League of Ireland and his hopes for the future in the Ireland national shirt.
