Grehan has been in scintillating form for the Phibsborough outfit, scoring three goals – including two stoppage-time winners that has made the 21 year-old centre back a huge hit with the Bohemians’ faithful.
The Crystal Palace loanee has been an Ireland Under-21 international for two years and in March captained the young Boys in Green against Scotland.
On his form at Bohemians
“It’s been good. I’ve been really enjoying it. I’ve been here before (Bohemians) and played here before. The fans are unreal and the environment is really good. Things are going well and we’re finding form at the right time but hopefully we can kick-on.
“I probably wasn’t it expecting it go as well as it has done compared with my other loan (Carlisle United), but I’ve been really enjoying it and playing some of my best football here and finding my feet. It’s been great the last couple of weeks, especially when things have been going your way – chipping in with a few goals too. I’m loving it.”
His first senior goal against St. Patrick’s Athletic
“It was unreal, especially with how late on it was. I think it was nearly the last kick of the game. The place was bouncing after it and there was an unbelievable buzz. I couldn’t believe it when the ball fell to me in the box. I just ran as fast as I could over to the fans – there were bodies everywhere. The atmosphere was deadly.”
The influence of Bohemians Manager and former Ireland Under-21s Assistant Coach Alan Reynolds
“Rennie (Alan Reynolds) has been great with me since I came here (Bohemians) and has always been great for me when I’ve been in Ireland squads – ever since my first squad really. He’s always been supportive and there’s a few lads in the Bohs squad that have been around international football and they’ve helped me too.
“I’ve been playing some good football here and with the Under-21s when Rennie was there also. I’ve a great relationship with him and I’m delighted with how it’s going here - Rennie has been a big part of that.”
The new generation of Under-21s
“I do feel the group is growing with every game. The first camps are always good to get players in and allow time for lads to settle into the group. It’s massive we build that togetherness, I think we did that in the last campaign. The group was really together and they took us really far, so hopefully in the next few camps we can build that togetherness and take that into the EURO Qualifications because you really need that.
“The few games I played in the last campaign really helped me and they’ll help me in this too. There’ll be some of the toughest games you’ll get and against some of the best opposition in the world. That experience has helped me and I hope I can share that experience to the other lads and help them along the way. It’s important we help lads out and tell them and show them what it’s all about.”
On the upcoming June friendlies against Croatia and Qatar.
“They’re going to be two tough games. I don’t think any international game is going to be easy. It’s good for us going into September to have these games as a group and get to know each other even more and work on things in preparation for the campaign. It’s massive for us.”
