Gary Cronin leaves role as Ireland WNT Assistant Coach

The Football Association of Ireland confirms that Gary Cronin has left his role as Assistant Coach with the Ireland Women's National Team (WNT).

Appointed in January 2026, the former Longford Town and Bray Wanderers manager helped the WNT to reach the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Play-Offs, where they will face Kazakhstan in Round 1 in October.

Cronin was involved with the WNT set-up for six games, where they recorded back-to-back victories over Poland as well as a brilliant win over Netherlands in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Speaking about his departure, Cronin said: “It was an honour to represent my country and work with such a talented and committed group of players and staff.

"As I move on to new opportunities, I’d like to wish the Ireland Women’s National Team the very best of luck in the upcoming Qualifying Play-Offs – hopefully they can go on to clinch qualification to another World Cup.”

The process to appoint a new Assistant Coach is now underway.
