Dublin Airport FC are the latest club to complete the FAI Club Mark award.

Dublin Airport Football Club was established in 1972 as Aer Rianta Soccer Club for the purpose of providing football for Dublin Airport staff members and their families. The club’s formation was the brainchild of Don Treacy and Joe Kelly, who had seen the success of Aer Lingus Football Club at the time.

The club, which has excellent facilities at the ALSAA Sports Complex, initially competed in the Athletic Union League before changing to the Leinster Senior League where it enjoyed many league and cup successes over the years.

In 1984 Dublin Airport Football Club became the founding member of the European Airports Football Championships, a Europe wide tournament where airports compete against each other on a biennial basis. This tournament continues to grow in strength year on year. Dublin Airport Football Club has had its fair level of success winning the championship on three separate occasions in 1984, 1992 and 1996.

Today, Dublin Airport Football Club has 3 adult teams and 70 members. The first and second team compete in the Leinster Senior League and the third team play in the United Churches Football League.

The football club is immensely proud of achieving the FAI Club Mark award which marks the end of phase one of the club’s development plan. Phase two of the development plan will commence shortly with the appointment of a Director of Football who will be responsible for the introduction of a coaching pathway, a Women’s team and to explore the possibility of an underage academy.

As the club looks forward to its 50th anniversary in 2022, it remains committed to its core values of inclusion, integrity, fairness and football for all.

Dublin Airport Football Club would like to thank the club’s committee and management for their commitment to the Club Mark process, especially Stephen Hanna for delivering the award.

The FAI Club Mark is free and optional for clubs and aims to:
• Improve the management of clubs ‘off the field’
• Establish and promote best practice
• Empower and support clubs
• Recognise and reward clubs for achieving high standards
• Increase a club’s capacity to operate effectively and grow football in communities throughout Ireland.
