Como trip provides key insights for Female Heads of Football

As part of their continuous training, 10 coaches travelled to Italy in January 2026 as part of a Female Heads of Football programme to learn more about a professional environment.

In partnership with Léargas, the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) arranged for the coaches to visit Como 1907 for a seven-day block to shadow key figures and observe how the club is run.

Como 1907 were selected for the club visit due to only recently establishing a full-time women's team so it was the perfect opportunity for the coaches to see how the building blocks are being put together.

Led by Richie Fitzgibbon and Jason McGuinness from the FAI Coach Development Team, the coaches were given insights to coaching philosophy. modern media, first-team training, youth development, staff building and community coaching.

FAI Head of Education & Development Niall O'Regan said: "With thanks to Léargas and all at Como 1907, we were able to help 10 coaches add to their development journey to hopefully becoming Heads of Football. This is something that we set out to achieve in the 2025-2030 FAI Education & Development Strategy, as it is crucial that women get to play a bigger role in our game in order to help others to develop and fulfil their potential. We will continue to support the 10 coaches as part of their development."

Head of Women's Football at Como 1907 Heather O'Reilly said: “We were delighted to welcome the group of coaches. Knowledge sharing is incredibly important, and we at Como 1907 remain humble and enthusiastic that this group chose to visit us. We are only in Year 3 of having a girls and women’s programme, so although we are proud of our progress, we too have a long way to go to become elite in all areas. We hope that we provided a memorable experience for the coaches and that they go home as new fans of Como 1907 Women as we press forward with our ambitions for promotion to Serie A and beyond.”

The 10 coaches included Ramona Keogh, Yvonne Tracy, Áine O'Donovan, Ann Regan, Rebecca Shinnors, Niamh O'Byrne, Tina McLoughlin, Vanessa McCann, Fran Tyrell and Leann Murphy.
