REPORT | WU17 | Ireland 6-4 Faroe Islands

The Ireland Women's Under-17s won their second game in Group B5 by overcoming Faroe Islands 6-4 in a tense UEFA WU17 European Championship qualifier.

Three goals inside the opening 20 minutes saw James Scott's team pick up from where they finished in their previous game when beating Lithuania in Kaunas.

However, Faroe Islands showed a lot of resilience and continued to fight back throughout - even bringing the scores level to 4-4 in the second period - but Ireland ultimately pulled away to celebrate the win.

Second-half goals from Ava Mullins and Anna Butler proved to be the difference after Ciara Breslin, Ella Kelly, Beatrice Silickaite and Sophia Leonard all got on the scoresheet early on.

It was a superb goal that got it all started on 10 minutes when a short pass from goalkeeper Laura Fanning led to four quick passes and Breslin racing on to fire into the back of the net.

Captain Kelly was up next to bundle the ball over the line from close range following a brilliant charge forward and cross by Leonard. Then Shelbourne ace Silickaite made it 3-0 finished inside the penalty area after a breakaway run from Butler opened up the Faroes' defence.

Faroe Islands got one back shortly after that before Leonard chipped the opposition goalkeeper from what she will insist was a shot from the right flank - her performance deserved the goal!

The game came alive with Faroes bringing it level by the 58th minute but substitute Mullins finished on the volley to compliment a driving run and square pass from Emma Gaughran.

Butler closed it out when she connected with a corner kick to head the ball in at the back post. This was a win that showed the kind of fighting spirit that is driving this squad forward.

Ireland: Laura Fanning; Sophia Leonard, Heather Loomes (Michaela Hand 56), Finley Newell, Emma Gaughran; Lauren Bowe (Maeve Wollmer 81), Madison McGuane, Beatrice Silickaite (Aoife Sheridan 56); Anna Butler (Leah McGrath 81), Ciara Breslin (Ava Mullins 63), Ella Kelly.
