REPORT | WU17 | Ireland 0-2 Germany

The Ireland Women's Under-17s lost 2-0 to Germany in their final 2025-26 UEFA European Championship Round 1 Qualifier in Frankfurt.

Ireland lost their opening game to France and then beat Belgium 4-0, but this defeat means that they finish in third place in Group A2.

Victoria Spring got the home team going on 13 minutes when she fired in and that was the start of a period that saw Germany show their quality.

Overall, Germany registered nine attempts on goal but they did not overpower Ireland, who have not only showcased resilience but game intelligence under Head Coach James Scott.

A number of second-half substitutions gave the Girls in Green some new energy as they went in search of an equaliser. Ciara Milton and Hailey Twomey both went close with efforts.

Germany closed the game out with a second goal on 65 minutes that came from Clara Choisy and that ended this set of Round 1 qualifiers with a one win and two defeats for Ireland.

Still, there were a lot of positives to take from this performance and their three games overall to indicate that the future is bright for this squad.

Ireland: Lucy Doyle Farrington; Lara Dallaghan (Holly O'Hagan 76), Amelia Fahey, Keelin Comiskey, Ava Hallinan (Alice Buggle 76); Madison McGuane, Emma Mooney (Alex Devoy 76); Halle Harcourt (Kassie McLoughlin 64), Sophie Byrne (Ellen Goggin 46), Hailey Twomey; Ciara Milton.
