The Ireland Women’s Under-17’s suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat in Kristinbergs IP, Stockholm, for their second match in Round 2 of the UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship against Denmark, who now sit top of Group A1.

A goal just before half-time from Denmark midfielder Mila Bischoff gave her team the goal they needed to secure the three points and go top of their group, ahead of Germany, who still have a game-in-hand.

Early into the second half, Ciara Milton had the chance to get an equaliser for Ireland but fell just short of a goal and hit the post, leaving her team battling for a draw in the latter stages of the game.

Ireland may have missed out on a place in the finals of the UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship, but the Girls in Green still have a lot to play for in their last game against Sweden, where a strong result is crucial in order to avoid relegation to League B.

Ireland: Lucy Doyle Farrington; Lara Dallaghan, Emma Mooney, Amelia Fahey, Ava Hallinan (Fiona Poole 46); Madison McGuane, Tess Finn (Alice Buggle 90), Hailey Twomey; Halle Harcourt (Catherine Oliveira 80), Ciara Milton (Kassie Mcloughlin 62), Ellen Goggin (Sophie Byrne 62).
