REPORT | Under-21s fall to Andorra defeat

Ireland Under-21s suffered a disappointing 4-0 defeat to Andorra in their fifth game of U21 EURO Qualifiers.

Two goals in each half condemned Irelad to the shock result, which leaves them on seven points.

Having performed so well against European Champions England it was expected that Jim Crawford’s side would pick up that level heading to Andorra but after 16 minutes they were goal down after poor defending allowed Gerard Sola to ghost in and head from close range.

Minutes later it was 2-0, James Abankwah gave away possession and Hugo Ferreira produced a fine finish for two.

In the second half it got worse for Ireland, Ian Olivera made the most of a number of deflections in the Ireland box to fire into the corner for 3-0.

Andorra made it four from the spot through Sola after Noah Jauny shoved Nil Boutfaras to the ground with the referee pointing to the spot.

Irelad return to action in March where they face Moldova at home followed by an away trip to Kazakhstan.
