A second half goal from Bohemian’s Hugh Martin was enough to secure the victory for the young Boys in Green who are out in southern Spain as part of preparation for next month’s UEFA EURO Under-17 Championship Qualifiers.
In their first international action since progressing through the first phase of qualifiers back in October, Ireland would go in at the break all square with the Hungarians at the FairPlay Golf Resort in Càdiz.
The game appeared to be heading for a draw until Martin got on the end of an Ireland free-kick to head home the winner 15 minutes from time.
Ireland are back in action on Saturday where they play the second of the double-header at 10am (Irish time).
Ireland: Brunton, Prizeman, Spaight, O’Connor, Quigley, Spelman, Egan (O’Dwyer, 64’), McGrath (C) (Sherian, 75’), Dunne (Molloy, 75’), Byrne (Wuna, 85’), Martin (Harpur, 85’).
