REPORT | MU17 | Ireland beat Austria to top group with 100 per cent record

Ireland Men’s Under-17s have qualified for the Elite Phase of qualification with a 100 per cent record after an impressive 2-0 win over Austria.

Paul Osam’s side advance to the next stage with three wins out of three and without conceding a goal after Shamrock Rovers’ Ben Mahon and St. Patrick Atheletic's Ryan Sheridan both scored in the second half to earn the win over the host nation.

Ireland dominated much of the attacking play but it would take until the 60th minute for the deadlock to be broken when Mahon headed past Teo Hupfauf following an excellent David Dunne cross.

Mahon was involved in the second goal too. His looping heading dropped into the six-yard box for Sheridan head home for 2-0 and to wrap up the game.

The win saw Ireland finish in top spot and will go into the next phase of qualification among the top seeds.
