A tense encounter in the Aviva Stadium saw the Ireland Women's National Team narrowly lose 2-1 to Cymru in their UEFA EURO 2025 Qualifying Play-Off Second Leg.

Second-half goals from Hannah Cain and Carrie Jones swung it for the visiting team but Ireland did not give up without a hell of a fight with Anna Patten pulling one back late on.

Ultimately the dream of qualifying for the European Championships slipped away for the home side as Cymru sealed their first ever major tournament qualification.

With a passionate crowd of 25,832 fans cheering them on, Ireland played on the front foot and registered 17 attempts on goal with Denise O'Sullivan, Katie McCabe, Julie-Ann Russell, Niamh Fahey and Leanne Kiernan going close with excellent chances.

This was a tough defeat for Ireland to take after putting so much into this qualifying campaign and they can take a lot of positives from this performance and how they fared over previous games.

Ireland: Courtney Brosnan; Anna Patten, Niamh Fahey (Megan Campbell 72), Caitlin Hayes; Heather Payne (Izzy Atkinson 84), Ruesha Littlejohn (Megan Connolly 72), Denise O’Sullivan, Jessie Stapleton, Katie McCabe; Julie Ann Russell (Leanne Kiernan 72), Kyra Carusa (Abbie Larkin 84).

Cymru: Olivia Clark; Gemma Evans, Hayley Ladd, Rhiannon Roberts; Lily Woodham (Ceri Holland 72), Angharad James, Alice Griffiths (Ella Powell 82), Josephine Green; Jess Fishlock (Carrie Jones 63), Hannah Cain (Ffion Morgan 63), Rachel Rowe.

Referee: Marta Huerta De Aza (Spain).
