Shelbourne’s Cormac Lowry and Derry City’s Michael McColgan sealed the victory to follow up an equally impressive win on Friday against Denmark.
Ireland were ahead after six minutes through Lowry. A ball over the top from Bohemian’s Ben Nicholls put Lowry through and he drew the goalkeeper before finishing low.
The young Irish side were on top and mid-way through the first half Shelbourne’s Seanàn Fisher forced a save from the Swedish goalkeeper Jakob Toma. And Toma was called into a superb stop in the 34th minute to deny McColgan after great build up play from Ireland.
But just after half-time McColgan got the goal his play deserved when he doubled Ireland’s lead after firing home from close range.
It could have been 3-0 but for a series of impressive saves from Toma to deny Ethan Kelly, Corey Fay and Adrian Rascau.
There was also an opportunity for McColgan to double his tally but he saw his chance denied by a last-ditch tackle.
Sweden did have an opportunity in the 64th minute when they were through one-on-one but Sebastian Clarke produced a good save to preserve his clean sheet.
