PREVIEW | Ireland U20s vs Ireland Amateurs

An Ireland Under-20s side and an Ireland Amateur selection will play-out a friendly at Home Farm FC tomorrow evening.

It’s an opportunity for Ireland Under-21s Manager Jim Crawford to assess 2002-born players who qualify to play in the next U21 qualification campaign while the game will serve as vital match preparation for the Irish Amateur team ahead of their UEFA Regions Cup campaign later this year.

Crawford has called in Cork City’s Matt Healy, UCD’s Dylan Duffy and St. Patrick’s Athletic’s Kyle Robinson. Tom Hill (Liverpool), Harvey Neville (Inter Miami), Deji Sotana (Brentford) and Armstrong Oko-Flex (West Ham United), who were named in the original squad, are to remain with their clubs.

The U21s manager has said that the game is also an opportunity for players to push their claims to join the U21 squad for training ahead of their European Championship qualifier against Sweden next week - that squad reports for duty on Wednesday.

Ireland Amateurs Manager Gerry Davis has named a 21-man squad for the friendlyand it features players from 13 amateur sides.

The Amateur squad has been preparing for the game at the AUL complex and Davis can call on experienced campaigners Brendan O'Connell (Rockmount AFC) and Jimmy Carr (St. Michaels FC), both of whom were members of the FAI squad that won the UEFA Regions Cup at Tallaght Stadium in 2015 when East Regions defeated Zagreb 1-0.

What the managers said

Jim Crawford said: "I'm delighted to have this group of players join us for a camp – it will be a tough game against tough opposition. It gives us an opportunity to have a look at 2002-born players who haven't had the chance to wear the Ireland jersey since 2019. That's a long time in football, so it's important we get this group in as we look at options for the next Under-21s qualification campaign."

Gerry Davis said: These games are always competitive and Jim has named a talented squad, so we expect a tough encounter and it's a fixture the players and staff are really looking forward to. It's been a long two years without a competitive fixture for the grade, so just to get back onto the playing field is such a welcome bonus and we'll look to deliver a performance and move on to the challenge.”
