PREVIEW | 2026 FAI Youth Interprovincial Tournament

This weekend will see the four provinces of Ireland go head-to-head in the 2026 FAI Youth Interprovincial Tournament.

Hosted at Salthill Devon FC, Galway, six games will take place from Friday, April 24 to Sunday, April 26.

It begins on Friday evening with the 20-player squads made up of players aged 18 or under.

Last year’s champions Leinster FA will be looking to reclaim the title having won the 2025 edition of the competition in Limerick.

Connacht Manager Joe Treacy said: “Preparation started for us a few months ago and that’s where we got going with the selection phase. Connacht is a big province but we worked closely with the secretary of the different leagues with regards players for selection. We settled on our 20 a week and a half ago and from speaking with the guys they enjoy this competition because it feel like a professional set-up, their gear, they’re catered for and it’s down to them perform. It’s three games in three days, but it’s developmental football and our hopes are we could be seeing a few of these players representing clubs in the League of Ireland in the near future.”

Munster FA Manager Eric Higgins said: “We’ve been scouting players all over the province then had the benefit of the inter league tournament too to monitor players. It’s been good, we’ve been training since late December and preparation is as good as it could be.

“This is our third year as a coaching group, we’ve learned from those years and we’ve certainly learned that it’ll be the squad that gets you over the line, you won’t win the tournament with 11 players it will be the group and the strength in depth. I’m happy with the squad and every one of those 20 will be called upon over three games, no doubts.”

Ulster FA Head Coach Daniel Doherty said: “We’re really looking forward to the tournament. It’s a great opportunity for these players to test themselves against footballers from other parts of the country. There’s a good feeling with Ulster football at the moment, we’ve three teams heading into the FAI National League from Donegal alone so these games are a further opportunity to show the quality in Ulster. It’s a very professional set-up and these players are going to learn to much from being in that environment and we’re looking forward to the three games against quality opposition.”
