Looking to exact revenge for Tuesday’s defeat, Keith O’Halloran’s side started with intent and found the breakthrough after just three minutes. A perfectly weighted ball over the top released Conor Hudson, who showed great composure to take just one touch before finishing past the goalkeeper to give Ireland an early lead.
Ireland remained disciplined throughout and doubled their advantage in the 64th minute through a moment of individual brilliance. Ronan Keating, having been introduced from the bench, embarked on a fantastic solo run down the left wing before cutting in and arrowing a finish into the far corner to make it 2-0.
Wales scored late to make it a nervous ending but Ireland rode out any late pressure to secure the win.
The result concludes the two-match series with one win and one defeat for the young Boys in Green. More importantly, the window provided vital minutes on the pitch for the entire squad as this group continues to progress on their international journey and build toward future competitive cycles.
