Partry Athletic achieve FAI Club Mark

Party Atletic from Mayo are the latest club to complete the FAI Club Mark award.

In early 2004 a football club named Partry Athletic was formed by a group of friends in the small southwest Mayo village of Partry.

The club formally entered the Mayo League Division 2B in 2004 and in their first season Partry finished in a remarkable third place just missing out on promotion. The subsequent year Partry won the Division 2B title losing only twice all season.

2006 and 2007 seasons saw Partry plying their trade in Division 1 and they continued their progress appearing in two Tonra Cup finals losing both times by the narrowest of margins 1-0.

Partry's development continued both on and off the pitch since then and the first step was the pitch development. The pitch is situated behind the parish church and national school and it has a playing surface that is regarded by many as one of the best in the county. It was opened by ex-Irish International player and manager Steve Staunton whose father hails from the village.

In 2008 Partry Athletic were proud to host the FAI President Mr David Blood and various ex Irish International players such as Packie Bonner and Ray Houghton and other FAI dignitaries on the occasion of the FAI visit to Mayo. David Blood opened the newly built Clubhouse, a major step forward in the development of the club.

Partry won promotion in 2008 to the Premier Division and also made the semi-final of the Tuohy Cup. In 2011 Partry played in the Tuohy Cup final once more but unfortunately lost and they also suffered their first ever setback by being relegated to Division 1 that season.

In 2012 Partry were promoted back to the Premier Division and were also represented on the Mayo Division 1 Team of the Year by four players, a considerable achievement which reflected the growing stature of the club in Mayo League circles. In 2013 Partry Athletic made it through to the Connacht Shield final which they won in Milebush, Castlebar.

Partry's first foray into Youths football came in 2009 when they fielded a team in the U11, U12 and U14 boys leagues and U14 girls league. The underage development has continued apace and the following year the club fielded U8, U10, U11, U12, U14, U16 boys and girls and a U13 boys team.

In 2010 Partry won their first underage trophy as their U14 boys claimed the Division Four title winning every game they played along the way. In 2011 Partry won two more titles with the U16's winning the Division Three title and the U17's winning Division Two. More titles have followed since as the clubs underage teams continue to make strides in Mayo football.

Partry were proudly represented by three players on both the Mayo Girls U14 and the Mayo U18 Boys squads in 2012. This was an indication of the huge development of the club’s underage academy and teams who have been represented in Mayo squads many times since.

The club have continued to develop and grow facilities with a training pitch being opened in 2019 to help cater for the growing number of teams and players utilising the venue.

The club expresses their thanks all of our supporters and sponsors.
