Two wins for WU16s over Wales

The Republic of Ireland Women's Under-16s closed out a two-game trip to Newport with a 1-0 victory over Wales in Dragon Park.

In the first game, Ireland were 5-1 victors thanks to goals from Lauryn McCabe, Aoibhe Brennan, Hannah O’Brien (penalty), Sorcha Melia and Rebecca Devereux.

It was an impressive display by a group of players who were newly assembled but the work that Head Coach Tom Elmes, and his staff, did in advance paid off as Ireland executed their game-plan.

For the second game, Elmes made some changes to the line-up and his side were competitive in the first period against a very good opponent.

There was a noticeable improvement in the second half as Ireland found their groove and won the game courtesy of a single goal from Shelbourne's Hannah O'Brien.

Elmes will be pleased by the two performances as many of the players involved were experiencing an elite level of international football for the first time.

Next up is an international friendly at home to Switzerland as Elmes continues to aid the development of this squad of players.
