Moore proud as CP Team reach Quarter-Finals
After two games played in Group B, Ireland are through to the quarter-finals with one game to spare. Not that anyone is getting carried away with their wins, but manager Moore feels that they have made the kind of start that he knew they were capable of.
A 2-0 triumph over Germany was followed up with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Thailand. That sets up Friday's clash with Brazil as an even bigger game as Ireland look to finish the Group stage in the No 1 position.
"We have played against two well organised and incredibly disciplined sides. We dominated possession in both games and I think we were deserving winners. Both teams made it difficult to break for us to break them down. We prepared well and kept reinforcing our game plan, to switching the point of attack, break lines when possible and the chances will come," said Moore.
"We knew coming over that we have goalscorers in the team and if we could get our defensive shape correct, we would be a team that people would fear. Keeping two clean sheets is something we are proud off. Our work-rate off the ball has been excellent. Everyone working hard for each other, filling spaces and getting pressure on the ball."
Moore, who is an FAI Development Officer in Fingal, has done excellent work in preparing his squad for this tournament, but he will be the first one to share the plaudits with his backroom staff and the players, of course.
"The mood in camp is positive, we have quite a lot of experience in our group and they know how to use it. We are looking forward to another tough game versus Brazil on Friday evening," he said.
"Right now, it’s all about rest and recovery. We will only have one day to prepare for Brazil, the backroom staff have been brilliant, everyone is working hard to make sure we leave no stone unturned.
"We kick off on Friday at 5:30pm Irish time, aiming to get another three points on the board and top the group. We have secured a quarter-final place, but we want to finish the group stages with nine points."
